On April 28, 1999, during a gala evening at Teatro dell'Opera, Rome, Roberto Bolle was appointed "Unicef Ambassador".
The evening was attended, among the others, by Mr Giovanni Micali, president of Unicef Italia, and Mrs Simona Marchini who was the patroness of the special event and gave Roberto a parchment with the following reason: "The Italian Committee for Unicef confers the honour Unicef Ambassador upon Roberto Bolle in order to awaken and involve public opinion, and especially young people, in children's problems. Roberto Bolle has to testify and promote solidarity and support for Unicef events. The Italian Committee entrusts him with a hopeful message for millions for children".
During this gala evening Roberto declared that he felt particularly honoured to receive such a prestigious award, also because he was just 24 years old.
"To help in defending children's rights is a moral duty for those who, as I do, receive so much in their life".
My maturity as a person and my success as an artist are strictly connected with a serene childhood. I am going to get involved in order to enlarge this privilege to less lucky children".
Roberto will be working not only with the Italian Committee, but also with the Unicef National Committees in the numerous foreign Countries he stays in during his performances all over the world.
